May 1995: this is the date that marks the beginning of the successful collaboration between Mattia Molfetta and Roberto Olivieri in the field of consultancy and independent advisor in energy management.
Their journey began within GfE Energy Management International, which became Summit Energy, then acquired in 2011 by Schneider Electric for about 300 million dollars. The potential conflict of interest with the French giant and the consequent loss of independence in the energy consulting and advisory activities pushed Roberto and Mattia towards the creation of the independent group Tera, certified Energy Service Company (ESCo) and leader in strategic consulting, energy management and energy project management.

Our History

Since 1995, the energy market has undergone variations, changes, real upheavals that have considerably changed the scenario in which Italian companies operate. The processes of liberalisation and the consequent proliferation of companies operating in the energy sector, the development of renewable energies, the growing use of hydrogen, the energy transition, the increasing electrification of the system and the consolidation of the Energy Efficiency First principle included in the European Commission's Energy Union Strategy are just some of the processes underlying the change in the world of energy. In the course of these changes, Tera has always managed to effectively and promptly support companies and organizations in the face of the challenges dictated by the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN Global Goals).

In the early years, Roberto and Mattia supported companies with strategic procurement activities, dealing with sourcing, negotiation of supply contracts, verification and control of invoices in the context of a volatile, dynamic market composed of an increasing number of operators. Sensing the direction of development of the energy markets, the two founders sought out and trained the best talents to expand the team: the Tera group has been constantly enriched with qualified professionals, capable of following and advising production companies and organizations in an increasingly complex market. Together with procurement activities, risk management and therational use of energy and energy resources have always been among Tera's main specialisations. In addition to these, sustainable development, on an economic, social and environmental level, has become a fundamental aspect through which companies that rely on the Tera Group can not only optimise energy costs, but achieve continuous improvement, transforming sustainability into a true competitive advantage.

In these 25 years the increased complexity of the drivers and the chain of actors linked to the world of energy has been accompanied by an impressive increase in the number of regulations and sectors subject to regulation. The study of standards and rules has always been one of Tera's areas of activity. In this area, the development of services related to Demand Side Management (DSM) has allowed Tera's clients to take advantage of the opportunities of dynamic demand management. The experience gained and the network built has made Tera a reference point for organizations that want to take advantage of all the opportunities related to the new regulations and an influential advisor for government agencies and authorities. In this context, the multiple assignments obtained with the Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and Environment (ARERA) and the International Court of Arbitration in Paris (ICC) have been significant. Over the years, corporate welfare, innovation, digitalization, training and information (with the birth of the Academy department), together with research and development have been consolidated as the cornerstones on which Tera is founded.

Our values

Attention to the founding values of total quality has always been a central element for Roberto and Mattia in the development of Tera. The many certifications obtained over the years, including in 2004 the ISO 9001 (quality), in 2008 the SA 8000 (social and ethical responsibility) and the ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System), in 2010 the EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme), in 2013 the ISO 50001 (Energy Management), the UNI CEI 11352 (Energy Service Company) and the EN 15900 (Energy Efficiency Services), have ensured that Tera's objectives have always been achieved with respect for social and ethical responsibility, the environment and energy efficiency.

Theethical commitment in these years has been accompanied by a considerable commitment at institutional level in the world of energy and industry by the two founders: Roberto Olivieri was national president from 2015 to 2019 of AssoEsco (Italian Association of Energy Service Companies and Energy Effciency Operators) and is on the board of EFIEES (European Federation of Intelligent Energy Effciency Services) in Brussels; Mattia Molfetta was president of the Comitato Piccola Industria and Vice-President of Confindustria Florence from 2007 to 2010.

In recent years, the growing attention of companies towards environmental, economic and social sustainability has found an important support in Tera's work. Sustainable development has in fact always been one of the areas of competence of its team, through projects related to Carbon Offsetting, Corporate Power Purchasing Agreements (Corporate PPA), the use of renewable energy (solar thermal, photovoltaic, hydroelectric, biomass, biomethane, bioLNG - bioGNL, hydrogen, energy communities) and the pursuit of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
