With the conversion into law of the Milleproroghe decree (July 2020), energy communities become a reality in Italy, after having already been successfully implemented in Germany and Denmark.

Energy communities are made up of citizens, associations, businesses, chains of shops or companies with offices in the same building that equip themselves with a shared plant for the production of energy from renewable sources, then available to them for self-consumption.

Energy communities bring with them a double benefit: the possibility to benefit from a tax deduction and to obtain, in addition, an incentive on the energy fed into the grid.

On September 15, the Minister of Economic Development issued an implementation decree defining the tariff to encourage the promotion of collective self-consumption and energy communities from renewable sources. The tariff for self-consumed energy will be respectively equal to:
- 100 €/MWh for collective self-consumption configurations;
- 110 €/MWh for renewable energy communities.

The incentive, recognized for a period of 20 years and managed by the Manager of Energy Services (GSE), will be combined with the Superbonus to 110%.
